The TRUTH About Building a Powerful Mindset
If the title caught your eye and piqued your interest, are you feeling a little lost, overwhelmed, or perhaps a bit unsure of yourself these days? You’re seeing agents posting online, full of confidence, sharing all these wins and successes, and maybe you haven’t been able to hit those milestones, or targets you were hoping for by now.
In this post, we want share with you some of the best tips for galvanizing a powerful mega agent mindset…so let’s go!
Ever feel like you’re running on empty, or you just can’t seem to do the things you need to be doing? Are you avoiding all the hard stuff, hoping it’ll just disappear? Well, that my friends, is called procrastination.
And here’s the thing…we typically procrastinate out of some sort of fear. Fear of change, fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear in our own worthiness, and so on.
At first you skip a few follow-up calls, then you don’t strike up that conversation at Starbucks, skip picking up the phone to find new business opportunities in your sphere…and on, and on, and on.
That chronic fear in your sales business can be crippling, and it reveals itself as procrastination. That avoidance of anything that can result in a painful situation of rejection or criticism, is one of the leading problems of unprepared salespeople, and needs to be addressed early on.
Fear is like fire, and it can become a raging inferno if not properly controlled and managed. Left unchecked, fear becomes this miserable and debilitating disease that holds you back from achieving even the most basic of functions, let alone sales targets, and it doesn't take long to get caught in a downward spiral of anxiety and self-doubt.
When you’re lost in your own head and not fully in the game, you just become disconnected from your business. Then you become disconnected from your life and your purpose. If you find yourself habitually procrastinating, you’ve got to take an honest look at your fears and inhibitions, and find a coach, mentor or colleague to help you unpack and overcome them.
Next, you’ve got to have a willingness to be vulnerable. Now, I know that seems counter-intuitive. Being vulnerable to become strong doesn’t sound right, but in doing so, you train yourself to understand that these vulnerabilities open up way more opportunities for you. All those supposed fears that we carry around like old baggage, just weigh us down and rarely materialize into the bad outcomes we filled our heads with.
Once you own the fact that challenges, doubters and criticisms will inevitably come your way, but that they do not determine your character and self-worth, you begin to shake them off.
Look, every agent has times when they feel inadequate or unsure of themselves, but it’s how they respond to those moments that separates the winners from the quitters. It's hard not to take challenges, failures and criticisms personally, but start by taking stock of your positives.
Find a way to reinforce those positives into your mind all day, every day. Write them down, recite them while you walk down the street, and think of them more often than you dwell on the negatives.
Those negative moments don’t define you. They help to shape and strengthen you.
We all want a different, better set of circumstances and a fairytale life. But, for things to change, first you must change…
If we could leave you with one nugget of wisdom, it would be this: “Your life and circumstances don’t change for you, they change because of you.” We want you to think about that!
All your hopes and dreams are nothing without the effort and action to back them up. We can’t remain the same, while expecting everything else around us to magically improve. It is the sum of all our efforts and leadership that are the catalyst for life changes, not hopes and prayers without action.
Even the smallest changes in how you think or what you do, will have a profound impact on your circumstances over time.
And lastly, we want you to create negative associations for remaining the same.
If you don’t take action and actively pursue your goal, could you really ever be satisfied? If you fail to go after your goals, which painful consequences will materialize as a result of your inaction? How much regret will you have for not taking that chance, or giving yourself that opportunity to realize your true potential?
Many people are fine to live in ignorant bliss, or spend their days blaming the world for their unhappiness and misfortune, but if only they knew how close they were to living a completely different life.
Don’t limit yourself.
Staying the same is safe and comfortable, we all get it, because our natural tendency will be to resist change - even if it’s a change that’s good for us. It’s like sticking to that dead-end job, or staying in that toxic relationship simply because there are some unknowns around the corner, or we’re too scared to walk away from a sure thing.
Decide here and now. What is the price that you’re going to pay for staying the same and not making those positive changes in your business, and your life?
